AMD Releases New Driver Update for Legacy Polaris and Vega GPUs
AMD has rolled out a fresh Adrenalin Edition 26.5.2 driver update tailored specifically for its older "Polaris" and "Vega" GPU architectures. These graphics cards, which powered many popular gaming PCs before the introduction of RDNA 1.0, remain in use by millions of users worldwide despite being nearly a decade old.
Focus on Stability for Apex Legends
The latest driver release addresses a single, but significant, issue: it resolves an application crash affecting Apex Legends on Radeon RX 400 and RX 500 series graphics cards. This targeted fix aims to enhance stability for gamers still relying on these legacy GPUs. Aside from this correction, the update does not introduce any additional changes compared to the previous Adrenalin Edition 25.8.1 driver released in August 2025.
Supported Graphics Cards
The Adrenalin Edition 26.5.2 driver officially supports a comprehensive range of GPUs based on the Polaris and Vega architectures, including:
- Radeon RX 400 Series
- Radeon RX 500 Series
- Radeon 500X Series
- Radeon RX Vega Series
- Radeon VII
- Radeon Pro Duo
- Radeon 600 Mobile Series
This ensures that users with any of these models can benefit from the latest stability improvements.
Legacy Hardware Still Supported
Polaris GPUs first appeared in 2016 for OEM systems and reached the gaming market in 2017, while the Vega series continued until 2019, culminating with the Radeon VII. Although these architectures have since been succeeded by AMD’s RDNA lineup, their continued presence in the market highlights AMD’s commitment to supporting legacy hardware. By providing critical updates like this one, AMD helps maintain a reliable gaming experience for users who have yet to upgrade to newer graphics solutions.
