AMD Unveils Ryzen AI Halo Box: A Powerful AI Development Platform at CES 2026
At the 2026 International CES, AMD introduced the Ryzen AI Halo box, a compact desktop system built around the advanced Ryzen AI Max+ "Strix Halo" processors. Unlike traditional consumer desktops, the Ryzen AI Halo box is positioned as a comprehensive AI development platform, designed to empower developers working on next-generation consumer AI applications. While it may not match the raw compute power of NVIDIA’s DGX Spark, AMD’s solution offers a robust environment for AI innovation in a more accessible form factor.
Advanced Hardware for AI Development
The Ryzen AI Halo box is powered by the Ryzen AI Max 395+, featuring a 16-core, 32-thread "Zen 5" CPU. This is paired with a high-performance integrated GPU based on AMD’s RDNA 3.5 graphics architecture, delivering 40 compute units for demanding AI workloads and graphics tasks. The system also includes a Microsoft Copilot+ ready NPU capable of 50 TOPS (trillions of operations per second), ensuring efficient on-device AI processing.
To support intensive AI development, the platform offers up to 128 GB of unified LPDDR5X memory. This high-bandwidth memory architecture is optimized for both CPU and GPU tasks, enabling seamless data sharing and faster AI model training and inference. The Ryzen AI Halo box is compatible with both Windows 11 and Linux, and comes pre-loaded with AI models specifically tuned for its hardware, streamlining the development process for engineers and researchers.
Innovative Cooling and Design
AMD has engineered a specialized cooling solution for the Strix Halo SoC, incorporating a baseplate, a network of direct-touch flat heatpipes, an aluminum channel heatsink, and dual lateral airflow blowers. This design ensures optimal thermal performance, maintaining system stability and efficiency during prolonged AI workloads.
Availability
The Ryzen AI Halo developer platform is scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2026. AMD has indicated that pricing details will be announced closer to the official launch date. With its combination of cutting-edge hardware and developer-focused features, the Ryzen AI Halo box is set to become a significant tool for AI application development in the consumer technology space.
