NVIDIA Dominates Discrete GPU Market with 94% Share in Q2 2025
According to the latest analysis from Jon Peddie Research, NVIDIA has further strengthened its leadership in the discrete graphics card (AIB) market, capturing an impressive 94% share of all shipments in the second quarter of 2025. This marks a 2.1% increase from the previous quarter, where NVIDIA already held a commanding ~92% share. The data indicates that NVIDIA’s gains directly correspond to AMD’s losses, as AMD’s market share declined by the same margin.
The surge in NVIDIA’s market share is largely attributed to the successful launch of its mid-range "Blackwell" GPUs, which now span all price segments and cater to a broad spectrum of gamers. In contrast, AMD’s focus on the mid-range segment with its RDNA 4 lineup has limited its appeal, particularly among high-end GPU buyers who have increasingly turned to NVIDIA for premium solutions.
Intel’s Position and Overall Market Trends
While NVIDIA and AMD continue to dominate the discrete GPU landscape, Intel’s presence remains minimal, with less than 1% market share among AIBs. Despite this, the overall add-in board (AIB) GPU market is showing robust health, with shipments rebounding to 11.6 million units in Q2 2025. This figure is notable, especially considering that the second quarter typically experiences lower demand due to seasonal trends. In fact, this quarter’s shipments significantly exceed the 10-year average of 5.7 million units.
Dr. Jon Peddie, president of Jon Peddie Research, highlighted an unusual pricing trend in the report: “AIB prices dropped for midrange and entry-level, while high-end AIB prices increased, and most retail suppliers ran out of stock. This is very unusual for the second quarter. We think it is a continuation of higher prices expected due to the tariffs and buyers trying to get ahead of that.” This shift in pricing dynamics, combined with strong demand, has contributed to the current market landscape.
Desktop CPU Shipments and AIB Attach Rate
The report also sheds light on desktop CPU shipments, which rose by 21.6% quarter-over-quarter but declined by 4.4% compared to the same period last year. Additionally, the AIB attach rate—the percentage of desktop PCs sold with a discrete graphics card rather than integrated graphics—climbed to 154%, up 2.3% from the previous quarter. This increase underscores the growing preference among consumers and professionals for dedicated graphics solutions in desktop systems.
In summary, the discrete GPU market in Q2 2025 is characterized by NVIDIA’s overwhelming dominance, shifting market shares, and evolving pricing trends. As the industry awaits further developments from Intel and other players, the current data highlights a dynamic and competitive landscape for graphics hardware.
